1 Month Old!

Image
Kenley is 1 month old today! The first month has gone by fast, it seems like just yesterday we were sitting around waiting for her to arrive. I took her to see the doctor today for her 1 month checkup. She now weighs 9 pounds and is 22 1/2 inches long, so she gained over a pound and grew an inch since birth, plus her head grew 2 centimeters larger. She is in about the 80th percentile for height, 70th percentile for head circumference, and about the 40th percentile for weight, so the doctor says she is long and skinny for her age (must be the King genes!). Next visit to the doctor is at 2 months and involves a lot of vaccinations - we are not looking forward to that! Here are a few pictures of Kenley in her birthday shirt (thanks Ann Marie!), birthday suit (bathtime with mommy!), and also a picture of us visiting Carkeek Park for a short hike this weekend. Apparently I did go out in public with my hair looking like that - yikes - you can tell we had a little bit of a fussy weekend and w...

The Many Expressions of Kenley

Image
I was taking pictures of this CUTE outfit and accidentally caught some classic (and hilarious) Kenley facial expressions, so I had to post them. Here is a mere sampling! Enjoy! Thanks to Theresa Paul and Elie for the cute outfit - she would fit right in on the golf course!

4 Weeks Old Tomorrow!

Image
Hi everyone! Kenley is 4 weeks old tomorrow and as of yesterday weighed in at 8 pounds 13 ounces! Our baby can eat (finally)! We are so proud... :) This week we had a reunion with the families from our Centering group, 6 weeks after our last meeting. 6 out of 10 families attended, and it was really fun to see everyone. Some of the midwives, including Mia who delivered Kenley, attended as well! It was interesting to hear how everyone has been doing, especially since some things are very similar and some are very different! We decided that Kenley (who is the youngest of the group) sounds like one of the most low key babies, and we are very thankful! Here are some photos! Six of the families from Centering and their babies! Kenley and her friend Jillian. All the babies (who made it to the reunion)! Going left around the circle from Kenley (in the pink polka dots of course), this is Parker, Sawyer, Elias, Avery, and Jillian. Check out Parker (to the left of Kenley) reaching out for the...

Great News - We Regained Birth Weight!!

Image
Great news! Today Kenley and Rachel attended our breastfeeding support group and discovered that Kenley now weighs 8 pounds 4 ounces! She has regained her birth weight (7 pounds 13 oz) and then some! We also had a great feed with the lactation consultant and are officially off our training wheels - no more supplementing with a bottle unless we feel like it. We'll still continue watching her weight to make sure everything is going well, but Emily thinks everything will be great from here on! Meanwhile, here are some cute pictures in a cute outfit from the Pedersen family in Denmark! Muchos snuggles and nappage.

2 weeks!

Image
Kenley was 2 weeks old on Friday! We took her for her 2 week check up and she weighed in at 7 pounds 11 ounces, which is a great relief - she gained 1 oz per day since our last visit to the pediatrician, so he was very happy. We seem to have feeding under control, but we are not totally home free yet and will continue working with our lactation consultant. Check out these chubby cheekies! "Bebe" left Seattle on Thursday, and we were very sad to see her go. On our own, we finally hit the freezer for some of the deliciousness we had stockpiled. Here's us enjoying some delicious carrot ginger soup Meghan made and froze for us!! Yum! And the much awaited meeting of Finnegan (2 mos) and Kenley! Law school friends Rike and Duncan visited (with delicious snacks and mimosas -yum!) and we were able to introduce the two babies who have spent a lot of time next to eachother while in the womb. Rike and Duncan were able to give us a preview of the next few weeks to come and let us b...

Labor Day Weekend Pics

Kenley's first stroller walk, which she hated. We'll try again soon. :) Learning to suck her thumb! A visit from friend Avery (7 weeks). "Do I look like a boy?" Enjoying her bathrobe - its a little big! Taking a bath and clearly loving it. Quality time with Daddy. Game day! Go huskies! Go Aunt Michal and Uncle Jason! (And Kenley is trying to eat Michal). Mmmmm full tummy.

Why "Kenley"?

Many people have been asking why we selected Kenley's name, so I thought I would post a little background. When we thought about what we wanted to name the baby, we wanted something that complimented "King" and that was unique but easy to pronounce, etc. We ideally wanted something that started with a K and that was two syllables long. We first heard the name "Kenley" from a person on one of our favorite reality TV shows, Project Runway: a fashion designer named Kenley Collins. http://kenleycollins.com/ We wouldn't say we named the baby after the designer, as she was not a very nice person on the show, but we still loved the name and decided it was perfect for our baby. Kenley is an English name and has been used for both boys and girls and also as a surname. It means "Royal Meadow" pr "the King's meadow" and is the name of a town in England (in Surrey). According to the social security website, Kenley is the 998th most popular name ...
